GOLDEN Artist Colors ACRYLIC GESSO & GROUNDS

An acrylic ground, also known as acrylic gesso or acrylic primer, is a product used to prepare a surface for acrylic painting, acting as a barrier between the support (like canvas or wood) and the paint, providing good adhesion, flexibility, and a suitable surface for painting. GOLDEN's gessoes and grounds allow artists to create the perfect support for painting in acrylic or oil. GOLDEN Gesso is designed to penetrate supports and provide a surface to which paint can adhere. Proper preparation with GOLDEN Gesso increases the life span of artwork. GOLDEN's Gesso is formulated to be flexible and is highly pigmented for greater opacity. GOLDEN also offers some other unique Grounds which expand the possibilities of acrylic painting. GOLDEN Absorbent Ground

Absorbent Ground is a fluid acrylic medium that dries to a porous, paper-like surface. Applied over gessoed canvas, it facilitates raw canvas-like staining and watercolor effects. Lightfast, permanent and flexible. This is a Health Labeled (HL) Product, and not for use by children.

GOLDEN Black Gesso

GOLDEN Gesso is a flexible liquid ground that seals, protects, and gives "tooth" to substrates, which promotes paint adhesion. It is formulated to accept a wide variety of media on many commonly used painting surfaces. It comes ready-to-use, but can be mixed with water for thinner applications. When applied in thin layers, GOLDEN Gesso will conform to a variety of textured surfaces. GOLDEN Gesso is available in Black or White, and can be mixed with GOLDEN Acrylics to produce a range of colored grounds.

GOLDEN White Gesso

GOLDEN Matte Medium (Clear Gesso)

GOLDEN does not make a clear gesso, but recommend Matte Medium for this purpose. Matte Medium is a general purpose medium for extending colour, decreasing gloss and increasing film integrity. Its semi-fluid consistency is lower than Heavy Body but thicker than Fluid acrylics. The gritty texture and matte finish make Matte Medium a great option to use as a Clear Gesso. It's fluid consistency flows easily for application with a brush or roller.

GOLDEN Fiber Paste

Fiber Paste offers a dry film that has the appearance of rough hand-made paper, similar to a Cold Press watercolor paper finish. Its absorbent properties make it ideal for acrylic washes. Works great as a painting ground for acrylics or watercolors, though special care must be taken to seal finished watercolors, which are a non-permanent medium.

GOLDEN Light Molding Paste

Light Molding Paste offers dramatic weight reduction when building thick layers of acrylics. It dries to an opaque, matte finish, is much softer than Molding Paste and is extremely flexible with an almost spongey consistency once dry, depending on the thickness of the layer. Light Molding Paste is also highly abosrbent, working great as a ground for acrylic stains or watercolor paint. Special care must be taken to seal finished watercolors, which are a non-permanent medium.

GOLDEN Pastel Ground

Pastel Ground is an acrylic preparation for pastels on canvas and other supports. It creates a toothy surface similar to papers used with pastel and chalk. For an even rougher texture Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel can be added. Acrylic Ground for Pastel can also be tinted with acrylic colors. 

GOLDEN Sandable Hard Gesso

Sandable Hard Gesso is formulated with 100% acrylic polymer emulsion and can be sanded to provide surfaces that are smoother and more even than those created using regular gesso.
