Our customers often ask us if we offer art classes. Unfortunately, we don't! But we're always happy to recommend some of the wonderful organizations in our city and province that do offer art classes and other art learning opportunities. The following list are some of our recommendations. It is not an exhaustive list and we are always updating it. If you offer art classes and would like to have your business or organization listed, please contact us.

Audra Balion art classes

Audra Balion Art Studio

Mediums:
Painting, drawing, graphic design and illustration. Regular paint nights throughout the year.

Ages:
Youth and adult

Skill Level:
All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience.

About:
Audra has a BFA from the University of Saskatchewan, specializing in painting and sculpture. Since then, she has become well-known for her illustrations and for encouraging folks of all ages to embrace the joy of creating art. Her silent graphic novel Flight Nineteen puts an acute focus on visual storytelling that has made her stand out within the space. Audra has taught at both her downtown studio in the Drinkle Mall as well as at the Gail Adams School of Art. With the recent closure of Gail Adams, she is delighted to open up her studio for both youths and adults for drawing classes.

USCAD

USCAD (UofS Certificate Program)

Mediums:
ALL Mediums! So many medium-specific course offerings, there is something for every kind of artist. From traditional painting in acrylic, watercolour, or oil, to drawing foundations, photography, mixed media, sculpture, textiles, glass, metal, and so much more.

Ages:
Mostly adult courses and workshops are offered (ages 16 and up), though there are some classes for children (ages 6-15). They often run camps during the summer and other school breaks. Check their extensive course offerings for specifics.

Skill Level:
All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience. Classes are very focused, and different levels are offered, Intro to Drawing, Advanced Drawing, etc. Offering an opportunity for everyone to find a medium and course level to suit their needs.

About:
The Community Art Program is administered by the University of Saskatchewan, but it offers non-credit, non-degree courses for anyone interested, any affiliation with the University is not necessary. USCAD instructors are professional artists from within the community, offering instruction in a variety of traditional, fine craft, and digital studio areas. For creative adults and children with various experience and goals.

Lemon Yellow Art Studio

Saskatoon Makerspace

Mediums:
Saskatoon Makerspace offers a variety of workshops and classes to teach members new skills and techniques. These include introductory courses on woodworking, electronics, and programming, as well as more advanced classes on metalworking, 3D printing, and laser cutting. They also have paint nights, pottery, rug-hooking, glass art, and more!

Ages:
Mostly adult classes, but some classes, workshops, and school break camps for youth.

Skill Level:
All skill levels welcome, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience.

Saskatoon Makerspace is a Non-Profit 10,000+ square foot facility located downtown Saskatoon. About:
Lemon Yellow Art Studio is a brand new studio offering art classes in the community of Prince Albert, SK. This new visual arts space is the long-time dream of local artists and educators Kayanna Wirtz and Tia Furstenberg. Their studio fosters an environment that encourages each individual to grow in their artistic potential and creativity. In addition to weekly courses, the studio also offers a range of other fun art-making activities including weekend workshops, figure drawing sessions, paint nights, and art parties.

For over 25 years, Christina Thoen has been a practicing artist and art educator in Prince Albert. In 2021 she relocated to Saskatoon, opening up a second location for her art school near River Landing. Classes are now offered in both cities. Her approach to art instruction is tailored to support each student's independent work and personal development, in an open-studio classroom environment.

Parented classes for ages 3-6, and general art classes for age 7 to adult

All skill levels, from beginner to experienced artists. Instruction is tailored to student skill level, experience, and interests. 

About the Owner/Artist:
For over 25 years Jenna has been a practicing artist in Saskatoon, working on personal and commissioned artwork.   Jenna has studied fine arts locally and internationally.  She studied under Gail Adams (owner of Gail Adams School of Art) for 15+ years, as well as at the University of Saskatchewan, and from various independent schools in the US. Her education is in graphite pencil, painting, pastel, colored pencil,  portraiture, illustration, digital art and character design.

About the Classes:
I believe that art is about fun, creativity and exploration.  Everyone can create fine art through fundamental skill development and practice.  My approach is centred on the individual needs and interests of each student.  I strive to create a supportive environment that encourages artistic growth and experimentation.  The studio offers a range of programs to suit the needs and interests of students, from foundational courses in drawing  to specialized programs in digital art, illustration, and more. Whether you're just starting out, looking to expand your skills, or looking for a fun bonding activity with your child, we have a program that will inspire and challenge you. U of S Department of Art and Art History

U of S Art & Art History

Mediums:
All mediums, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital, new media.

Ages:
Adults, University level, degree program. Open only to students enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan.

Skill Level:
Professional, university-level art education. BA, BFA and MFA degree programs offered. Foundation level courses may be taken as electives by those in other degree programs, no previous art experience is necessarily required, though the standards of evaluation are high.

About:
Explore the study and practice of visual art. Develop your creative talents through printmaking, drawing, painting, digital imaging, sculpture, photography and extended media. Study the history of art through courses in Canadian art, Aboriginal art history, European architecture, Renaissance works, 19th Century visual culture and photographic history. A degree in Art & Art History is a great start for students interested in careers in visual art, design, architecture, film, curatorial work, education, university teaching, arts administration and art conservation. Students with a U of S degree in Studio Art or Art History are prepared to pursue graduate studies here and around the world.

Funky Artsmiths

Mediums:
Painting and drawing, a variety of mediums including pastel, charcoal, acrylic, watercolour, etc.

Ages:
Children in Grades 1 through 12.

Skill Level:
All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience. Karen's philosophy is to value the beauty in all artistic expression, and to help each student achieve their own, individual potential.

About:
Funky Artsmiths was founded in 2014 by Karen and Katharine, who shared a similar passion and philosophy about art and art education. Katharine moved to the US in 2018, but the studio has carried on as Karen's solo project. In 2022, the school moved to a new location at 105c-701 Cynthia Street. Classes run in an open studio format, with small class sizes to make sure each artist gets the time and attention they need to feel successful. Funky Artsmiths focuses on building a supportive community where everyone is seen and heard and given space to explore their creativity. Funky Artsmiths' classes are exclusively for younger artists, children and youth aged 6-18.

Nefelibata Arts & Crafts

Mediums:
Variety of mediums, mostly with a focus on mixed media crafts.

Ages:
Adults. Classes and workshops are for 18+, but the shop has a variety of items and art supplies for artists of all ages!

All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience.

About:
Nefelibata is a store and workshop space that offers an eco alternative to buying new arts and crafts supplies. They accept donations and occasionally buy/sell items, then process and present them so that they are consumable again and stay out of landfills. They also bring in antique and retro items from all over, so Nefelibata is packed full of nostalgia for every generation. They also have the Craft Lab, which is a small project maker space, a craft classroom, a place to explore your creative whims and meet other artists and makers. They offer a variety of classes, social events, drop in crafting times, open Lab time and booking options! Please note that all events, classes, bookings and memberships are for folks 18+

PAVED Arts

"PAVED Arts is a non-profit, community-based organization that exists to advance knowledge and practices in what we call the ‘PAVED Arts’ arts: photography, audio, video, electronic and digital. We help artists and independent producers make and exhibit their work." In addition to their exhibition space, PAVED also operates a largescale production centre, offering a variety of amenities, including printing, equipment, and space rentals to support artistic production in a variety of ways.

Bridges Art Movement

BAM (Bridges Art Movement)

Bridges Art Movement (BAM) is a grassroots collective, established in 2014 as a catalyst for art in Saskatoon by collaborating with and supporting emerging and established artists. Since forming, BAM has been cultivating arts and community in Saskatoon by facilitating over 20 art exhibitions, happenings, workshops and events. BAM’s collaborative process has informed members’ personal practices and has provided a support system to create and explore different approaches to work. Currently housed in the Drinkle Mall, BAM runs an Artist in Residence program that gives artists a place and platform for projects, experiments and growth.

"The Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UMC), in downtown Saskatoon, features three galleries dedicated to celebrating and promoting the arts, culture, and legacy of the Ukrainian Canadian community. We also house archives, a library, community spaces, and a shop carrying a range of authentic Ukrainian giftwares, clothing, and crafts. The Ukrainian Museum of Canada was established by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada in 1936 with the aim of promoting Ukrainian arts, culture, and heritage."

Wanuskewin Heritage Park

"Wanuskewin Galleries provides gallery space in which Indigenous artists can present and develop their work on both a professional and creative level. We develop, present, and promote media, visual, and performance art by contemporary and traditional Indigenous artists, framing all programming and exhibitions within Indigenous worldviews. RemaiModern is a public art museum in Saskatoon. The art museum is situated along the west bank of the South Saskatchewan River, at the River Landing development in Saskatoon's Central Business District. Mann Art Gallery

"The Mann is Prince Albert’s only public art gallery, and the northernmost public art gallery in Saskatchewan. 330g

330g is an independent artist-run space located in the regenerating Riversdale neighborhood in Saskatoon. This renovated historic building, formerly a Ukrainian Labour Temple, has been converted into artist studios and a compact exhibition space. The exhibition space at 330g has been created to give artists an opportunity to share their work and exchange ideas with other professionals both local and abroad. Temporary exhibitions, by invitation only, are located primarily in the foyer of the building and of short duration. Submissions are not accepted. Exhibition viewing is 1-4 on Saturdays and by appointment.
