Our customers often ask us if we offer art classes. Unfortunately, we don't! But we're always happy to recommend some of the wonderful organizations in our city and province that do offer art classes and other art learning opportunities. The following list are some of our recommendations. It is not an exhaustive list and we are always updating it. If you offer art classes and would like to have your business or organization listed, please contact us.

Gail Adams Studio of Art

Gail Adams Studio of Art

Mediums:
Painting and drawing, particular focus on drawing, but also offer instruction in acrylics, watercolour, pastel.

Ages:
All ages, children to adults.

Skill Level:
All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience. Instruction can be tailored to suit the students' needs.

About:
Gail Adams School of Art has been offering the highest quality of art instruction to children and adults since 1980. The studio was established by Gail Adams and is now owned by her long-time student and business partner, Carey-Lynn Link. The art school offers a variety of programming for artists of all ages and ability levels from Preschool to adults. Weekly classes are offered in two semesters, generally beginning in September & February. These include both General Art classes & a wide variety of Specialized art classes for all ages. General Art classes are also available in Warman & Martensville. We also offer a variety of day camps for children during Easter & Summer break.

Funky Artsmiths

Funky Artsmiths

Mediums:
Painting and drawing, a variety of mediums including pastel, charcoal, acrylic, watercolour, etc.

Ages:
Children in Grades 1 through 12.

Skill Level:
All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience. Karen's philosophy is to value the beauty in all artistic expression, and to help each student achieve their own, individual potential.

About:
Funky Artsmiths was founded in 2014 by Karen and Katharine, who shared a similar passion and philosophy about art and art education. Katharine moved to the US in 2018, but the studio has carried on as Karen's solo project. In 2022, the school moved to a new location at 105c-701 Cynthia Street. Classes run in an open studio format, with small class sizes to make sure each artist gets the time and attention they need to feel successful. Funky Artsmiths focuses on building a supportive community where everyone is seen and heard and given space to explore their creativity. Funky Artsmiths' classes are exclusively for younger artists, children and youth aged 6-18.

USCAD

USCAD (UofS Certificate Program)

Mediums:
ALL Mediums! So many medium-specific course offerings, there is something for every kind of artist. From traditional painting in acrylic, watercolour, or oil, to drawing foundations, photography, mixed media, sculpture, textiles, glass, metal, and so much more.

Ages:
Mostly adult courses and workshops are offered (ages 16 and up), though there are some classes for children (ages 6-15). They often run camps during the summer and other school breaks. Check their extensive course offerings for specifics.

Skill Level:
All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience. Classes are very focused, and different levels are offered, Intro to Drawing, Advanced Drawing, etc. Offering an opportunity for everyone to find a medium and course level to suit their needs.

About:
The Community Art Program is administered by the University of Saskatchewan, but it offers non-credit, non-degree courses for anyone interested, any affiliation with the University is not necessary. USCAD instructors are professional artists from within the community, offering instruction in a variety of traditional, fine craft, and digital studio areas. For creative adults and children with various experience and goals.

Christina's Art Studio

Painting and drawing with a variety of mediums, including graphite, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, watercolour, and ink.

About:
For over 25 years, Christina Thoen has been a practicing artist and art educator in Prince Albert. In 2021 she relocated to Saskatoon, opening up a second location for her art school near River Landing. Classes are now offered in both cities. Her approach to art instruction is tailored to support each student's independent work and personal development, in an open-studio classroom environment.

About:
Lemon Yellow Art Studio is a brand new studio offering art classes in the community of Prince Albert, SK. This new visual arts space is the long-time dream of local artists and educators Kayanna Wirtz and Tia Furstenberg. Their studio fosters an environment that encourages each individual to grow in their artistic potential and creativity. In addition to weekly courses, the studio also offers a range of other fun art-making activities including weekend workshops, figure drawing sessions, paint nights, and art parties.

U of S Department of Art and Art History

U of S Art & Art History

Mediums:
All mediums, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital, new media.

Ages:
Adults, University level, degree program. Open only to students enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan.

Skill Level:
Professional, university-level art education. BA, BFA and MFA degree programs offered. Foundation level courses may be taken as electives by those in other degree programs, no previous art experience is necessarily required, though the standards of evaluation are high.

About:
Explore the study and practice of visual art. Develop your creative talents through printmaking, drawing, painting, digital imaging, sculpture, photography and extended media. Study the history of art through courses in Canadian art, Aboriginal art history, European architecture, Renaissance works, 19th Century visual culture and photographic history. A degree in Art & Art History is a great start for students interested in careers in visual art, design, architecture, film, curatorial work, education, university teaching, arts administration and art conservation. Students with a U of S degree in Studio Art or Art History are prepared to pursue graduate studies here and around the world.

Audra Balion art sanctuary

Audra Balion Art Sanctuary

Mediums:
Painting, drawing, graphic design and illustration. Regular paint nights throughout the year.

All ages, children to adults.

All skill levels, from first-time beginning artists, to those with some experience.

About:
Audra Balion Art Sanctuary is a new kind of space that functions as Audra's personal studio as well as a retail gift shop and event space for paint nights and lessons. Offering limited retail hours, there are also open studio times where the public can see Audra work and join in. She is also available for appointments and consultations to take on new art commissions, art lessons, paint nights, and more!

PAVED Arts

PAVED Arts

"PAVED Arts is a non-profit, community-based organization that exists to advance knowledge and practices in what we call the ‘PAVED Arts’ arts: photography, audio, video, electronic and digital. We help artists and independent producers make and exhibit their work." In addition to their exhibition space, PAVED also operates a largescale production centre, offering a variety of amenities, including printing, equipment, and space rentals to support artistic production in a variety of ways.

The Saskatchewan Craft Council (SCC) invites and connects the world to experience excellence in Saskatchewan craft. The SCC fosters an environment where excellence in craft is nurtured, recognized and valued. The SCC supports Saskatchewan craftspeople to flourish creatively and economically. They offer a variety of services and opportunities for their members, including an exhibition program.

Wanuskewin Galleries

Wanuskewin Heritage Park

"Wanuskewin Galleries provides gallery space in which Indigenous artists can present and develop their work on both a professional and creative level. We develop, present, and promote media, visual, and performance art by contemporary and traditional Indigenous artists, framing all programming and exhibitions within Indigenous worldviews. In doing so, we support the preservation of Indigenous artistic practices and Indigenous self-determination and self-representation."

The Gallery at Frances Morrison Library

The Gallery at Frances Morrison Library

The Gallery’s mandate is to display high-calibre artwork that has not previously been displayed locally, created by Saskatchewan’s emerging and established artists, particularly those living in Saskatoon. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Frances Morrison Central Branch of the Saskatoon Public Library, in downtown Saskatoon.

The University of Saskatchewan campus houses four art galleries – College Art Gallery 1 & College Art Gallery 2, Kenderdine Art Gallery, and Gordon Snelgrove Gallery. Creative and vital gallery spaces and art work inspire the university’s mission of culture, teaching and discovery.

Bridges Art Movement

BAM (Bridges Art Movement)

Bridges Art Movement (BAM) is a grassroots collective, established in 2014 as a catalyst for art in Saskatoon by collaborating with and supporting emerging and established artists. Since forming, BAM has been cultivating arts and community in Saskatoon by facilitating over 20 art exhibitions, happenings, workshops and events. BAM’s collaborative process has informed members’ personal practices and has provided a support system to create and explore different approaches to work. Currently housed in the Drinkle Mall, BAM runs an Artist in Residence program that gives artists a place and platform for projects, experiments and growth.

Ukrainian Museum of Canada

Ukrainian Museum of Canada

"The Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UMC), in downtown Saskatoon, features three galleries dedicated to celebrating and promoting the arts, culture, and legacy of the Ukrainian Canadian community. We also house archives, a library, community spaces, and a shop carrying a range of authentic Ukrainian giftwares, clothing, and crafts. The Ukrainian Museum of Canada was established by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada in 1936 with the aim of promoting Ukrainian arts, culture, and heritage."

city of saskatoon art gallery

330g

330g is an independent artist-run space located in the regenerating Riversdale neighborhood in Saskatoon. This renovated historic building, formerly a Ukrainian Labour Temple, has been converted into artist studios and a compact exhibition space. The exhibition space at 330g has been created to give artists an opportunity to share their work and exchange ideas with other professionals both local and abroad. Temporary exhibitions, by invitation only, are located primarily in the foyer of the building and of short duration. Submissions are not accepted. Exhibition viewing is 1-4 on Saturdays and by appointment.

Mann Art Gallery

Mann Art Gallery

"The Mann is Prince Albert’s only public art gallery, and the northernmost public art gallery in Saskatchewan. It thus has an important role to play in promoting local and regional artists' work through mounting and touring exhibitions, producing catalogues, and conducting curatorial visits.  Adding diversity and community involvement in our programming is achieved by exhibiting works in our three galleries from different artists and art groups."

RemaiModern

RemaiModern is a public art museum in Saskatoon. The art museum is situated along the west bank of the South Saskatchewan River, at the River Landing development in Saskatoon's Central Business District. The museum's permanent collection features over 8,000 works from Canadian and international artists.
