Unmounted Boards and Panels

Gotrick unmounted boards and panels offer an economical surface option for painters of all levels. Inexpensive, durable, and efficient to store, unmounted panels come in two types in a range of sizes. Russian Birch can be used primed or unprimed with acrylics, allowing the option to let the wood grain remain visible in the work. Priming is recommended for oil-based paints. Masonite is extremely well priced. A dark brown pressed wood product that is very hard and smooth. Priming is recommended. Masonite accepts acrylic gesso. Sanding lightly between coats allows artists to achieve a very smooth surface for acrylics or oils.

Masonite Boards (unmounted)

Made from high-density fiberboard with two different surfaces. One side is smooth and one side has a rough texture. Great for studies and class assignments and great for taking out into the field. For the best possible archival stability and protection against the possibility of support induced discoloration, it is recommended that you gesso these panels on both sides before painting.

Russian Birch Boards (unmounted)

The same Russian Birch used in the Mounted Panels is now available un-mounted at a very economical price. Extremely lightweight, these panels are the perfect surface for quick studies, class projects, or field work. Just like the mounted panels, when working with acrylics these boards can be used un-primed or with a clear sealant like GAC-100 or clear gesso if you would like to allow the natural wood grain to remain a part of your work. They can also be gessoed with no surface preparation necessary. Sealing and/or priming is strongly recommended if you intend to apply any oil-based paints.
