LINDSEY REWUSKI - DISPERSIA
Reception: N/A
September 25, 7PM - Midnight
As part of the 2021 Nuit Blanche outdoor night-time art festival, Art Placement is pleased to host "Dispersia" by Lindsey Rewuski, an A/V projection that will be presented in our front window. Dispersia is part of Rewuski’s new series of work that explores the artistic potential inherent in "Multi-Sensory Environments" (MSE). An MSE is a dedicated space that is built to offer people with cognitive impairments the opportunity to control a variety of sensory experiences, and are used in institutions like schools or care homes, with the input of specialists. Dispersia was created based on the theory behind MSE environments, with the intention to calm and reduce agitation and anxiety through the use of gentle light, organic movement, and soothing sounds.

Dispersia was created with support from SK Arts and PAVED Arts.

About the Artist:
Lindsey Rewuski is a multi-media artist based in Saskatoon, SK, Treaty 6 Territory. Her work is informed by light art, multi-sensory environments, and 1960s psychedelic light shows. It includes immersive A/V installations and performance that often combine light, photography, audio, sculptural, and video components.

Eschewing computers in favour of an analog and hands-on approach, Rewuski incorporates liquids, glass, organic materials, chemicals, textiles, and other found or created objects that are manipulated and projected onto screens and stages. The organic movement, composition, and colours of her visuals are both inspired by and contribute to the experience of interacting with sound, and are often designed in collaboration with the artists and musicians who provide or perform the audio component. She also photographs still projections to create ‘light paintings’, using hand-painted 35mm slides and multiple slide projectors, as well as manipulated focal points.

Rewuski has projected light at festivals, art spaces, and venues across Canada since 2015. You can find more of her work on Instagram at @ghosthousestudios.
