Wynona Mulcaster

Wynona (Nonie) Mulcaster was born 1915 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She passed away August 25, 2016, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she had resided since the late 1970s. She played an integral role in the history of art and art education in Saskatchewan, being instrumental at several key points in the development of the art scene in the province since the 1930s. Her studies with Ernest Lindner (1935-1945) and her early teaching experiences throughout the province impressed upon her the importance of art education for all ages. In addition to her education degrees, she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon in 1942 and later earned a Master of Fine Arts at Institute Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in 1976. During the late 1930s, she was involved in establishing what was to become the Emma Lake Artists Workshop in Northern Saskatchewan. In the mid 1940s, she studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts and from 1964 to 1977 she taught painting at the University of Saskatchewan. Her influence on several generations of painters was immense and is still felt today. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada and can be found in many private and public collections.
