Lynne Graham

For many years, Lynne Graham has been honing her unique visual vocabulary, producing works that incorporate many different mediums and often blur the distinction between painting and drawing.

Graham was born in Yorkton and has lived in several cities and towns throughout Saskatchewan, residing in Saskatoon since 1994. Her formal art education began in 1981; while living in North Battleford she enrolled in classes through the University of Saskatchewan Extension Division. She also attended workshops at Emma Lake beginning in 1983, and again in 1985 and 1986. In 1985, she transferred into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Saskatchewan and began commuting to Saskatoon on a weekly basis to attend classes, completing her degree in 1990. She attended the Emma Lake Artist's Workshops in 2003 and 2005. Since then, she has continued to paint and draw, exhibiting her works throughout the city and province.

While Graham’s earliest works tended towards realism, her mature paintings and drawings are distinctly abstract. She begins with a recognizable subject, often a still-life arrangement or domestic interior, but abandons this imagery as the work inevitably progresses to become an exploration of colour, line, shape and texture. With striking colour combinations, dynamic shape relationships and delicate surface intricacies, Graham’s paintings present lyrical harmonies that are chained and ordered by their own internal logic.
