Martin Bennett

Martin Bennett is a contemporary painter whose work explores various aspects of the medium including its history, process, materials, image making, and the relationship between abstraction and representation. Using a complex reductive methodology involving photography, photocopying, drawing, painting and sanding, his static paintings alter the viewer’s expectations of the traditional forms of representation and abstraction. Bennett resides in Saskatoon, though he divides much of his studio time between Canada and England. Born in 1970 in Winchester, England, he immigrated to Canada in 1975. He studied painting at the Alberta College of Art and Design, graduating with distinction in 1992. He has exhibited his work throughout Canada and abroad since the early 1990s, including solo and group exhibitions in Saskatoon, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, and London, UK.
