Kim Ennis was born in Saskatoon in 1956. He is a self-taught artist, or rather
one who has learned by working alongside other artists, principally the late
Professor William H. Epp. Ennis focused on drawing and painting until 1980.
He then became a founding member of the Prairie Sculptors' Association and worked
mainly in bronze, stone and wood for the next two decades. During this time
he specialized in abstract carving using hand tools almost exclusively. He attended
numerous symposiums creating both lasting monuments in stone and large ephemeral
works in snow or sand. Both his subject matter and treatment have been extremely
diverse.
In 2003 Mr. Ennis was hired as the Artist in Residence in Melville, Saskatchewan.
Since then he has resumed painting, working in a loose representational manner
and depicting scenes from the river’s edge within the Meewasin Valley.
He has recently completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University
of Saskatchewan and works in Public and Professional Programs at the Mendel
Art Gallery.
