Custom Stretchers – Stretching Artwork:

Our custom built stretchers can be used to mount existing paintings on canvas, or they can be stretched with canvas to produce premium quality working surfaces for artists. We can provide a range of options to suit the artist’s method and budget including raw canvas in various weights, primed canvas or custom primed.

*Custom Cedar Stretchers (strainers) are constructed of grade A, kiln-dried Western Red Cedar using a sturdy two-piece laminated design for extra strength and warp resistance. The fixed corners are reinforced with plywood corner gussets and center-braced as required. This results in a robust structure that makes an ideal working stretcher that will stand up to repeated use. This design will easily accommodate paintings up to 6’ x 10’ and beyond.

**Low Profile Basswood Stretchers are a lower cost, light-weight alternative to custom cedar stretchers. They are ideal for stretching smaller-scale artwork. The shallower profile means they will fit a greater variety of custom frame mouldings. Low-profile stretchers used in our custom framing department have a fixed corner and are available in any size up to 48 inches.
