Printmaking Papers

Like watercolour papers, printmaking papers are available in a variety of sizes, quality and content. Unlike watercolour papers however, printmaking papers have a softer, less durable surface and contain very little or no sizing. These two characteristics make them ideal for prints but unsuitable for most painting and drawing unless a soft, dull appearance is desired from coloured pencils, acrylics or Oriental watercolours.

Arches Text Wove
Arches Text Wove is a mouldmade, acid free (100% cotton), buffered paper. This paper features a lightly textured surface with two natural and two torn deckle edges.Suggested applications include: drawing,screen printing, offset litho, block printing, calligraphy and bookbinding.

Arches Cover
Arches Cover is a mouldmade, acid free (100% cotton), buffered drawing and printmaking paper. This paper features a lightly textured, cold pressed surface and a registered watermark. It has four deckle edges and is available in white and cream.

Arches 88
Arches 88 is a mouldmade, acid free (100% cotton), buffered printmaking paper which is highly recommended for silkscreen printing and, if slightly moistened, for intaglio etching. The sheets are unsized which allows for high ink absorption. It has four deckle edges and a registered watermark.

B.F.K. Rives/Rives Heavyweight
B.F.K. Rives/ Rives Heavyweight are mouldmade, acid free (100% cotton), general purpose printmaking papers known for their buffered, smooth surface and light sizing. They have four deckle edges and a registered watermark.

Rising Stonehenge
Rising Stonehenge paper is 100% rag, two deckle edge, neutral ph paper with a weight of 245 GSM. It is suitable for charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, silkscreen, calligraphy, acrylic and other watermedia. Packages of 25 receive 20% off.

Somerset Satin
Somerset White Satin is a mould-made print paper developed to cope with the techniques of modern printmaking. Internally sized and buffered. Watermarked with two torn and two deckled edges. Excellent value for an acid-free buffered sheet with a pH of 8.5. Suggested applications: Etching, Direct and Offset Lithography, Typographical Printing, Screenprinting, Relief Printing, Pastel, Gouache, etc.

Strathmore Illustration Board
Strathmore 500 Illustration Board is a heavyweight, plate (smooth) finish. Ideal for pen and ink,airbrush and mechanical applications.

Gampi
Gampi paper ("paper cloth") from Japan is an ideal paper for printmaking. Its fibres are long, smooth and very durable. Gampi has a natural chemical resistance to paper-eating insects and as a non-absorbent, damp-resistant surface, is one of the most permanent papers in the world.

Mulberry
This unbleached mulberry from Thailand is made from 100% kozo, a long, rough fibre from the mulberry tree that produces strong, absorbent sheets. Kozo is the most common fibre used in Japanese printmaking as it will not shrink or expand when wet and produces an uneven surface in paper.

Sekishu Banshi Tsuru
This handmade paper from Japan is made from 100% pure kozo, the most commonly used fibre in Japanese printmaking.

Yupo Paper
Yupo paper is made of 100% polypropylene with a neutral pH and exceptionally smooth surface. It is waterproof, stain resistant and incredibly strong. It is ideal for various aqueous techniques as well as offset printing, silkscreen and debossing.
